80 Ball Bingo

When you play bingo online or at a land-based bingo hall, you’ve probably played 90 ball or 75 ball bingo. These are the two most common types of bingo and the most popular, but there are plenty of other versions of bingo out there. The popularity of online bingo means more people than ever are getting into bingo and are able to try out new versions of the game.

The History of 80 Ball Bingo

No one is really sure when exactly 80 ball bingo started, but we do know that it originated in UK bingo halls. As bingo halls grew more popular, they were always coming up with new ways to play the game. People designed new ways to play that would make games shorter, add more ways to win and allow players to have more fun. 80ball bingo was formed and has since become one of the most popular ways to play bingo both in-person and online.

How to Play 80 Ball Bingo

In this guide, we’ll be explaining what makes 80 ball bingo different and looking at whether it’s worth playing.

Rules of 80 Ball Bingo

If you’ve played any version of bingo before, the rules to 80 bingo won’t surprise you too much. The basic premise is the same. You buy your ticket or tickets, wait for players to join the room then daub off numbers from your ticket as they’re called out. Numbers are called out at random, and as they appear, you check your ticket to see if you have a match.

As you might be able to guess from the name, 80 ball bingo features eighty balls, each containing a number from one to eighty. The 80 ball bingo tickets you have in this version of bingo will also contain numbers on them from one to eighty. The 80bingo caller calls out numbers between one and eighty at random. As you match the numbers on your ticket to those called out, you daub them.

The more numbers you cross off your ticket, the higher your chances of winning are. As the 80 ball bingo game progresses, your ticket should eventually have most of its numbers crossed off. You can win by forming lines, specific bingo patterns or getting a “full house”, which is where all of the numbers are crossed off.

The 80 Ball Bingo Ticket

In bingo, you buy tickets to enter a game, and 80 ball bingo is no different. Sometimes known as 80-ball cards, each of the tickets you buy contains a 4x4 grid containing exactly sixteen numbers, one in each square. The numbers on your ticket are all randomly generated and are always between one and eighty.

To make things easier for you when you’re daubing off numbers, the first column always contains numbers between one and twenty. The second features twenty-one to forty, the third has forty-one to sixty and the fourth has sixty-one to eighty. However, when playing online bingo, the game will automatically mark your numbers, so you don’t need to worry about missing out.

The objective of the game is to complete specific patterns or lines on your ticket by crossing off the numbers. Of course, this is a game that is based entirely on luck as you’re unable to change your numbers, it all comes down to who has the luckiest tickets.

How to Win at 80 Ball Bingo

There are a few different ways to win when playing 80ball online bingo. As in other types of bingo, you have to form shapes or lines on the ticket by daubing your matching numbers as they’re called out. If you’ve played any other type of bingo before, this should be pretty straightforward for you, but in case you haven’t, here’s our guide on how to win.

There are a few different ways to win while playing 80 ball bingo, these are:

  • 1 line: This is the simplest way to win and usually happens the fastest. Players simply have to make a line across their ticket, crossing off four numbers in a horizontal, diagonal or vertical line. Whichever player achieves the 1 line first will win a prize, anyone who gets a line after that won’t win.
  • Four corners and square: As with the 1 line pattern, these patterns each require four numbers to be crossed off. With the four corners, you’ll need to have a number crossed out in each of the four corners of your ticket. The square is the four innermost spaces in the middle of the ticket, forming a simple four space square.
  • 2 line: As with regular bingo, 80 ball bingo also offers a prize to the first player to complete a 2 line formation. This requires the player to complete two lines, anywhere on the ticket but both going in the same direction. These lines must also both be on the same ticket. For example, if you had 1 diagonal line, you’d have to get a second diagonal line on the same ticket to win.
  • 3 line: A 3 line pattern is fairly self-explanatory and is simply three lines across the ticket. Just as with the 2 line pattern, these lines all have to be going in the same direction for this to count as a win. For example, if you already have two diagonal lines across your ticket, your third line will need to be diagonal in order to win the prize.
  • Full house: The full house offers players the ultimate prize. Whoever is the first to complete all sixteen of the numbers on their ticket will be able to shout bingo and be declared as the winner. The full house usually pays out the highest amount in the game, and once it’s won, the game is over. In some cases, reaching the full house within a certain amount of numbers called will also activate a jackpot.
  • Pattern: In some 80 ball bingo games, players will have the opportunity to win a special prize if they complete a certain pattern. This is generally used in jackpot bingo, where creating a particular pattern will unlock the top prize. There are lots of different bingo patterns that can be used, some of which are much more challenging than others. Patterns include specific numbers, letters or even clock times.

Differences Between 80 Ball Bingo and Classic Bingo

Classic bingo is usually used to describe 90 ball bingo although some people may also be more familiar with 75 ball bingo. While it may not seem like there are many differences between them at first glance, the games do certainly feel very different when you play.

Here are the main differences between 80 ball bingo and 75 ball or 90 ball bingo:

  1. More ways to win – 80 ball bingo lets players win with 1 line, 2 line and a full house just as with 90 ball and 75 ball bingo. On top of that, players can also win with 3 lines or with four corners or a square pattern. This makes the game more exciting and means players have more opportunities to win.
  2. Faster gameplay – Because there are fewer balls than 90 ball bingo, games tend to go by faster. This means you can fit more games into a shorter space of time, increasing your fun and letting you play more. While there are slightly more balls than in 75 ball bingo, the difference is barely noticeable.
  3. Different tickets – One thing that stands out for 80 ball players is that the tickets are very different than those of 90 ball bingo. The 80ball bingo tickets do share a similarity to 75 ball bingo tickets as they’re square-shaped, but unlike 75 ball bingo, there are no free spaces. All 16 places on the ticket are covered with numbers.

80 Ball Bingo Strategy and Tips

Winning in 80 ball bingo is much the same as in any other type of bingo you can play. The game is decided on chance, so there’s no way to affect the outcome. The only thing you can do to improve your odds is to buy additional tickets. As in any other type of bingo, the odds of a win increase if you have more bingo tickets. Remember though, that just because you buy a lot of tickets it doesn’t mean you’re guaranteed to win. Make sure you’re always playing responsibly and that you don’t spend more than you can afford to.

Make sure you’re always paying close attention to the rules of the game, as often 80 ball bingo games will include special jackpots. You can read the PlayOJO bingo rules of the game you want to play when you first join one of our rooms. Here will be all the details you need to know how to play and whether there are any jackpots.

If there is a jackpot available in the room you’re playing in, make sure you check how to win. Some games will require you to reach a full house within a certain number of balls while others will need a player to complete a certain pattern on their ticket. The details of the pattern you need are always provided in the rules. It’s a good idea to pay close attention to this as completing the pattern could mean you win a big prize.

Remember that you can turn on our PlayOJO auto-dauber to make sure you don’t miss out on any prizes if you’re unable to watch the game while it’s in progress. We make sure that you won’t miss out on your prize simply because you were distracted or unable to get online at the right time. As long as you have tickets, you’ll be in with a chance of winning.

80 Ball Bingo Payouts and Jackpots

The payouts for an 80 ball bingo game will depend on the room you’re playing in. You can check out the exact payout before you start buying tickets by reading the game information. Generally, bingo payouts are affected by how many tickets are sold. The more tickets sold, the higher the prize will be!

Some bingo rooms will have slightly different rules, however. You might see the following mentioned in the game description of an 80 ball bingo room here at PlayOJO:

  • Guaranteed prize pot – These games don’t rely on ticket sales to make the prizes. Instead, there’s a guaranteed prize pot which will always be won at the end of the game. Prizes can get even bigger if tickets over a certain amount are sold.
  • Jackpot – A jackpot is a special prize that’s only available to luck players. While standard bingo prizes are won at the end of each game, a jackpot will only be won if a specific condition is met. An example is reaching a full house within a certain number of balls or completing a specific pattern on your ticket. Some jackpots may also be progressive, meaning they increase over time as more players join in and buy tickets.

80 ball bingo often features jackpots that reward players with big prizes for completing special patterns. Make sure you check out the rules before you buy your tickets to see how to win these big prizes.
